Whirlwind Weekend

Had a great weekend with the family and spent WAY too much time in the car. That's OK though. I got to see my baby nephew graduate from NADC, spend some quality time with Charissa in the car, and get away to Nashville, although tourism (nor relaxation, for that matter) was not on the agenda.

I also enjoyed seeing my aunts, uncles, and cousins today in Winchester. I don't get to see them nearly enough, so it's all the more special when I do. It was great to see all the kids (MAN do we have a lot of them!) and eat all the food. The absences of Uncle Ronald and Uncle Porter were definitely noticeable. This is the first time we've done this reunion without them.

It was a good weekend and hopefully will leave enough gas in my tank to get through Labor Day. It's going to be very busy which will help the time pass and make me earn that 3-day weekend that's coming up soon.

Um...hi

(tap-tap-tap) Is this thing on? I suppose so. It's been a while since I've made a "substantial," thoughtful blog post (or "note" for Facebook readers). I have focused more on "mini-updates" via Facebook. Talking about goodness of meals, readiness for weekends, and disgustedness with the Reds. Really, though, there has been little else to discuss. However, as someone who once posted something for 852 straight days, perhaps I can pick up the habit again and occasionally lay some longer thoughts out there.

Tried something different tonight. I watched performances only and did not influence myself with the judges' comments. Here's what I think.

ADAM LAMBERT (08)--Sanjaya with a voice. You can tell he's comfortable on stage.
DANNY GOKEY (03)--a very solid vocal.
KRIS ALLEN (09)--stepped outside the box and raised his game.
SCOTT MACINTYRE (05)--one of his better performances.

LIL ROUNDS (07)--a big song and she did it justice.
ALLISON IRAHETA (04)--she picked a good song for her and did it well.

ANOOP DESAI (01)--not a great performance for Anoop Dawg.
MATT GIRAUD (06)--very copycat and I expected better.
MEGAN JOY CORKERY (02)--she's out of her league.

Just two groups tonight. The top group was nearly flawless. The second group either vocally or through song selection had some flaws. No particular order in each group.

You know it's bad when...

The Dow Jones industrials gained 53.92 points to cap Wall Street's best week since last November.

Two words (as always) were key tonight: SONG SELECTION. The folks who picked the right song did well. The others...not so much. Three tiers tonight.

Tonight was more tough than last week. Breaking it down into three groups:

JORGE NUÑEZ (11)
FELICIA BARTON (08)
JU'NOT JOYNER (05)

LIL ROUNDS (12)--I'm tired of the "best" going last and she wasn't as unique as Felicia.
VON SMITH (01)
SCOTT MacINTYRE (09)
KENDALL BEARD (10)

TAYLOR VAIFANUA (02)
KRISTEN McNAMARA (06)
NATHANIEL MARSHALL (07)
ALEX WAGNER-TRUGMAN (03)

I think anyone in the top two tiers has a decent shot at the top 12. It was tough to rank tonight.

ALLISON IRAHETA (05)
ADAM LAMBERT (12)
KRIS ALLEN (06)
NICK MITCHELL (04)--He has too much vocal talent to need a gimmick.

MEGAN JOY CORKERY (07)
MISHAVONNA HENSON (11)
JESSE LANGSETH (09)
KAI KALAMA (10)

JASMINE MURRAY (01)
